Gas Log Fireplaces

Gas log fireplaces can really add a lot of charm to any room in a house. They have the ability to add a comforting glow, ambiance, and a little warmth. Gas log fireplaces are available in many styles that can fit any décor. But, one important thing to take into consideration is that there are basically two kinds of gas fireplaces. The difference between them can be a very important one to many people.  We will take a look at them now.

Gas log fireplaces are available in two main kinds. These are vented gas log fireplaces and unvented ones. Clearly as the titles of them indicate, the main difference is whether they have venting or not. But, it is the reason for the venting that may be most important to many people. You see, there are basically two kinds of flame that gas log fireplaces put out. There is blue flame and yellow flame. The difference between them is mostly aesthetic. Yellow flame is far more realistic when compared to a real wood fire. If your goal is to have a gas log fireplace that closely mimics a real wood fireplace then you will want a yellow flame.

The thing is, to create a yellow flame from gas you need to burn it a certain way. Gas log fireplaces that produce a yellow flame burn the gas in a way that produces impurities. This is how it is able to get the yellow flame. But, because of the impurities, you need to vent out the gas fireplace to remove the impurities from entering you home. That is what they vent is for. Because of the venting, your home will remain nice and impurity free.

The unvented gas fireplaces burn the gas in a very clean way. This is how they end up with the blue flame. And, because they burn the gas so cleanly they do not need to be vented.

Now, the actual logs used in gas log fireplaces are usually made of ceramic of something similar. These ceramic logs are available in a wide array of styles. The better quality ones are able to have an almost identical appearance to real wood logs. They are available in many kinds like oak, maple, and almost any other wood you could imagine. The better quality ceramic logs with the yellow flame of a vented gas fireplace are extremely difficult to tell from a regular wood fire.
